Giving Something Back

Shortly after arriving in Phuket, Paul Gibson was immediately struck by the plight of many orphans and homeless children on the Island.

During his years as a Golf Professional, Paul had been involved in the development of Junior and Youth Golf in England, and as such, has always taken a keen interest in the wellbeing and education of children.

His idea was "not to entertain children for a day, but rather to empower them for their future"

Unlike most childrens charities, Paul wanted to create an entity that focused not only on children in need, but reached all Children on the Island. The advantage of this would be to ensure that children across the social spectrum would interact and be involved with one another.

With this in mind, Paul set up the CHILDREN OF PHUKET CHARITY in 2007.
Together with the Deputy Mayor of Patong, Khun Chairat Sukaban, the Charity has become an integral part of the Phuket Community, and has taken the lead in many initiatives to improve the quality of life of local Children.

When asked what prompted this move, Paul responded,

'As a Parent, I am only too keenly aware of the importance of positive experiences early in life, and our aim is to create a platform from which these types of experiences can be launched.
Our primary concern is the children, but we pride ourselves in being able to reach Families as well. A solid and happy Family environment, makes better and happy Children, and in the end, the community can only benefit.
We hope to create an awareness in the Children who come from strong family backgrounds, that not all Children are as lucky as they are. This awareness will promote caring and a better understanding of those less fortunate than themselves.
Giving back to Community which has become my home, is very important to me, and in some little way we hope to enrich the lives of tomorrows leaders.'

The Charity works closely with both NGO's and Goverment Departments in facilitating various endeavours to entertain, educate and house children in need.

The Annual Bicycle give -away, is the pinnacle of the Charity's efforts, and takes place on Patong Beach in January.
Hundreds of Children are each given a Bicycle supplied by the Charity from donations and gifts received from concerned residents, tourists and local Companies.

Day trips, outings and other fun events are hosted by the Charity and have always been well received by the Children.

The CHILDREN OF PHUKET CHARITY is based at THE YORKSHIRE HOTEL in Soi Sansabai, Patong Beach, and anyone interested in acquiring more information, or wanting to make a donation can contact the charity on +66 76 340 904 or e-mail info@yorkshireinn.com
